Just thought I'd share a pic of my 8x2x3 tank. I bought it 3 years ago and couldn't set up it for awhile due to not having enough room. I found it for $350 so I had to jump on it.  I got it set up and somewhat scaped 6 months ago. I still have some nice driftwood being prepped to go in so I'll share updates soon. Currently it has 10 minnows in it. School starts up soon so when I find time I will collect some fish for it. For plumbing I found a 3000 gph on amazon for $90 that has exceeded my expectations. It's hooked up to a diy trickle tower.

Cool, I have done several similar filters with 5 gallon buckets. Works great. Adds to the fun, doing it yourself.

Nice!  If I were you I'd be so excited at the thought of being able to stock it I probably couldn't sleep at night!  Any particular plans for the future denizens, or are you just gonna let luck decide?

the funny thing is I'm actually enjoying the minnows in there at the moment. But yea I have a plane, this tank was always going to be for pickerel. as soon as I have a few days of from school I'll be going to Columbia SC and collecting some.

Just regular gravel. I had a few bags of the 25lb for 5$ that home depot used to sell. ( wish the still had it, I need more!)

That is a great plan!  Minnows are what its about!  Notropis and Nocomis!

thanks, I like it too and look forward to continue scaping it. I don't know much about minnows. I checked those out and they look cool. I might have to find a minnow species that get a bit bigger so they don't become pickerel food

Figured I would mention. Gar are pretty good pickerel tank mates in a tank that size.

True. Though I kind of got turned of by gar. 5 years ago I had 2 that both eventually died. both were doing great then they started to deteriorate (at separate times) I'm pretty sure they each injured their spines, like many small gar do. but you bring up a good point. if i were to get one I'd find one at least 6 inches

Does anyone know if pygmy sunfish would eat eggs? my hope is to have the pickerel eventually breed ( I know its very rare In tanks) but they could bring some spice to the tank. big enough to not be eaten but small enough to not overcrowd.
