How do i tell if my tank is made of tempered glass? Well short of destroying it...

Look had it while wearing a pair of polarized sunglasses. You can look at a car windshield first to make sure you know what it looks like.

Will that work indoors?

Yes, you may want to use a piece of white paper behind the glass. If tempered you will see tempered lines in the glass. Try it with things you know are tempered first. Pyrex baking dishes or bowls etc.
