Horseshoe Lake (aka Suggs Mill Pond) in Bladen County NC is a Carolina Bay lake with floating vegetation mats comprised mainly of aquatic Sphagnum moss and bladderwort inter-twined with plant roots. These mats support Sagittaria isoetiformis, Yellow-eyed grass (Xyris), Swamp loosestrife (Decodon), Bladderwort (Utricularia, Meadow beauty (Rhexia), Yellow pitcherplant (Sarracenia flava), Sundew (Drosera), pond cypress seedlings, and many sedges and grasses. Since the mats float, the plants are never submerged nor dry out.  Did not find many fish here: just one bluespotted sunfish and one pirate perch.
