Makes even more sense in stream settings where food / energy is particularly limiting. Individuals have reason to operate within a shoal even when considering issues related to predator avoidance and increased competition for food.

Interesting. This idea had been demonstrated for birds quite a few years ago. Makes sense that the same principles would apply.
