Apologies for a more fishing-related question than typical for NANFA.

I have an upcoming trip targeting shovelnose-ish sturgeon, and will not have access to live baits due to travel restrictions. Has anyone on here used any of the synthetic "natural" baits ("Fishbites", "Gulp", etc.) for shovelnose with any luck, or know anyone that has?

Thanks in advance.

Dave my understanding is that earthworms are the way to go when targeting shovelnose. Back in the day I used to catch juvenile white sturgeon on frozen shrimp you'd get from the grocery store. Not sure if either of those are options for you. Can't comment on the newer synthetic baits though. All things being equal I suspect you'd be better off with the real stuff if possible. Good luck.

Thanks. I was worried that might be the case. I doubt I can get any locally but will try. I have Gulp, may try to kicknet up some burrowing mayflies for bait, and worst-case scenario -- have trammel nets as a backup.
