I do a lot of wildlife photography and have really wanted to get better images of smaller fish, so I've decided to assemble a photo tank out of pre-cut glass, but I'm not sure what to use to cement the glass together. What would be the safest option? (I'm mostly thinking about fish safety, so nothing that would dissolve in water, etc.)

Clear 100% silicone. That is the standard in the aquarium industry.

yep, silicone is the way to go with glass, and you can get aquarium grade silicone rather easily.

I took y'all's advice, and in thanks, here's a recent photo taken with the tank. 

The background/edges of the tank were edited out, but the fish itself is unchanged. I love the detail I can get now; I'd consider it a success!

Yes, I have an additional glass panel for that purpose

Actually, since this is a topic that comes up repeatedly, the forum should have a permanent photo tank thread in which people post photos of tanks, construction methods, inventive ideas, problems and solutions, etc.

There are several photo tank threads already... but everyone always re-starts there own.

 

On the positive side, that's what forums are good for... all the threads are permanent.
