I am fairly new to the NANFA forums, but some of you have help me with sunfish ID's in the past. Those ID's were much appreciated. Through this forum, I got in contact with JasonL, who offered to meet up with my outside of Houston, TX while he was visiting family over Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, due to my hectic work schedule at the time, we couldn't swing the meet-up. We have continued to stay in contact and recently I shared with him a project that I have been working on. It's a book titled Fly Fishing the Sam. It will still be a couple of months before I am ready to publish, but I started a website for it where you can get a peek as to what the book has to offer. www.flyfishingthesam.com

 

At Jason's suggestion, I am posting this to the forum in the hopes that I could get some feedback from the NANFA community. Yall are incredibly knowledgeable about different fish species, and I would be super grateful for your input. Thank you for what you do.

Looks like a really interesting book. It's cool to see a guide to fishing Texas that goes more in depth into the local ecosystem than the typical bass master type stuff.

I’m definitely interested in a copy when available.  I was on the outskirts of the Sam over Thanksgiving and it is clearly a neat area worthy of further exploration.  Look forward to getting back there when I get a chance.

 

Rob -your website https://www.rootsgameandtrail.com/ is worthy of a mention as well .  Some good stuff in there many NANFA folks could appreciate.

I will be self-publishing. I hope to make it available as a paperback, hardback, and e-book. I bought enough ISBN's for all three formats. Thanks for asking!

Hi Everyone,

 

I hope all is well and that everyone is staying healthy. I just wanted to let the community know that Fly Fishing the Sam is available for order at www.flyfishingthesam.com. There is a section at the back of the book titled "Worthy Causes" and I put a little paragraph in there about the NANFA community and why it's important. 

This book focuses on fly fishing in the lotic environments of Sam Houston National Forest. I have fallen in love with the Lepomis genus since fly fishing the creeks of the Sam, so there is a large section about "panfish" within the book. 

 

Its 84 pages with lots of pictures, maps, and access routes. Thanks for your support and for taking a look. I really appreciate all the help this community has given me while I was working on this book and making positive identifications to the various fish species that are in the waters of the Sam.

Rob and i swapped books and i have to say his is very well put together.

 

Though i am a snorkeler and he a fisher it was neat to observe and study our design and presentation book ideas.

 

Someone should write a review and publish it in American Currents.

 

BTW has anyone spoken to Ben Cantrell recently?  His name came up in a conversation today.
