I'm not finding any discussion on the forum regarding our upcoming SC convention, yet we are only about 2 months away.

I'm excited to revisit Columbia and remembering my trip from years ago.  Chip Rinehart toured me around both before and after the convention.

Grilled Asparagus.  Feeding Termites to his pond fish, clackity clack and then snap crackle pop.  Blue Sky murals and a giant fire hydrant bursting from the ground.  GoatFeathers.  Feeding his Mama wild mushrooms.  Massive storm.  Touring the aquarium in Charleston?  Alligators.  BBQ and twisted hard pork rinds.  Zoo critters.  Phil K giving an enthusiastic talk.  Gerald P speaking about all our bright colored minnows... Rainbows, Tennessee, Yellow Fins.  A great convention.   A low light low country boil in the Zoo's aquarium hallways.

However i do not remember snorkeling anywhere during the convention proper.  Was this due to swampy, murky conditions, with dangers of predatory alligators and lurking water moccasins?

I do remember snorkeling afterwards while zigzagging along the TN Valley divide, snorkeling both headwaters.  And i may do that again, pre or post depending on options.

My question is are there any snorkel waters within a 1 hour radius from Columbia?

I'm starting to wonder if anyone besides the hardcore group of NANFans are going!

NY Scott will make an appearance.  The Wolfe.

Postman Matt had me print some fishy bumper stickers for the auction.

I still need to register.

Not long.

We need some chit chat motivation for attendance.

Shall i bring you some native Elodea, Casper?

Bill Flowers from Indy and I are making plans to come. I just received a bag of DeLorme Atlases for the NANFA auction from Joe Fleckenstein. I haven't heard from others in the Midwest.

I'm giving a talk on "Dace, Chubs, and Shiners" to the Circle City Aquarium Club in Indianapolis on Feb. 6 where I'll promote NANFA and the convention. I'll do the same at my local fish club, Champaign Aquarium Fish Enthusiasts, meeting on Feb. 1 and at the Missouri Aquarium Society in St. Louis auction on Feb. 9.

Us Yankees kind of rest in the 4 degree C. thermocline from November to February. We're just starting to spread our fins a little.

Casper,

To answer your original question, I do not know of any clear snorkel spots within 1 hour of Columbia, but you can definitely find some within 2 hours in the upstate. As you move further north of Columbia you’ll encounter better spots, so there may be some I don’t know of. South of Columbia you’re looking at swampy, tannin-stained water for the most part.
Fritz and Dustin may know of something. Maybe over east towards Thompson creek area in chesterfield?

I'll be coming and fully retired as well what better way to begin the next stage of life. The first SC Convention was my first so really looking forward to a revisit. Just got back from 10 days collecting in the Peruvian Amazon drainage. Will be good to see some old timers as well as some new faces. Met John Butkis in Peru hope he can make it. SC Convention was one of my all time favorites can't wait to see what's in store for this one.

I'm really looking forward to the Convention and meeting everyone.

Question:  for the Coastal Plain trip, will a FW fishing license suffice?

Thanks.
