My university owns five small (like bathroom- to living room- sized) ponds about 20 minutes outside of town.  Last fall, they all completely dried up. The area has since flooded and refilled the ponds, and while sampling for salamanders, we've found a large number of pretty good-sized fish.  I've recently started taking note of the fish caught in the salamander traps daily and was wondering how I could somehow turn it into a research project.  My initial thoughts are keeping a list of species and their relative populations each month and seeing how they change in an area that often floods (MS Delta)?  I'm not sure if it has actual research potential or if I'm just having fun looking at fish..

Any chance anyone ever sampled the fishes in those ponds in the past?

Most likely not, but I can find out for sure next week. I was going to explore the area for nearby creeks this afternoon
