Hey guys! Recently came across this forum as I was browsing for info regarding Florida’s springs. I tore down the scape in my 5.5 in a whim and decided I’d do a Dutch style aquascape centered around the habitat of Heterandria Formosa. I kind of do want another species (space permitting), if anyone has any suggestions. But most of all, I want native plant suggestions if you guys have any!

I assume this is a no co2 tank?

With that assumption there are a lot of native plants popular in the hobby. Many species of ludwigia are native such as palustris. Most of the dwarf hair grass species are native such as elecharis acicularis, and parvula. Dwarf Sagittaria is native as is most (maybe all? the other species of subulata). Some species of Bacopa such as Caroliniana is native. Cardinal plant (Lobelia cardinalis) is native. And Juncus Repens is native. Those are the easy beginner plants I can think of off the top of my head. For floating plants I really like giant duckweed. Its much bigger then normal duckweed so if you get tired of it you can easily remove it. But it grows easily even with a bit of surface turbulence, and eats up excess nutrients.

Yup, no co2. Thank you so much for all those recommendations! I currently have guppy grass, pearlweed, vallisneria, and penthorum sedoides. I’ll definitely try to get my hands on some of the plants you mentioned!

I think having pygmy sunfish in your tank would be cool!

I agree!! I’ve had my eye on them for a while. If anyone can confirm that they’re found in spring fed habitats, I’ll definitely try to add them in.
