Then Came the Last Days of May
Forested land, gravel and sand, the sun was high and hot
And the water flows a long way, 'cause it's a lot
Three good buddies were wading and seining across from a shallow ford
They didn't know they weren't going far
Each one with enough gear on his back
Enough to go and buy himself a brand new rod
But they all had the gear they had
Gear they hoped would catch them many fish
The sky was bright, shimmering light, now and then some luck
And they hadn't seen a copperhead all day (just muck...)
They brought everything they needed
Pails and nets to catch the stuff
Another said the suckers were pass the bluff
It wasn't until the seine suddenly snagged
In the middle of a deep and cold running pool
And the other guy bobbed, sank and said
This gars too big, did they know a trap had been lain?
They're ok the last days of May, I'll be breathing dry air
I'm leaving soon, the fish are already there
Would you be interested in coming along, instead of staying here
They say the east is nice this time of year
