Hello,

I have a 130 gallon tank and I'm trying to figure out what would be best suited to go in it. Right now it just have half a dozen species of inverts and a couple plants. I am partial to trying out green sunfish, but only if 6 or 7 could live happily in a 130 gallon. I've looked through the threads, and I came across one discussion on keeping green sunfish in a 72 gallon tank. In that discussion opinions seemed divided, so I wonder if a discussion about 130 gallons would lead to a more uniform consensus. My tank dimensions are 2ft x 4.5ft x 2ft. so it is as wide as it is tall.

I could stock anywhere from 1 to 100 fish in both tank sizes. There are ways to mitigate social issues. I have to do it, and often in a replicated manner.

What is your intent with the fish?

Find ways for people not already interested in natives to value them.

Just to enjoy them as pets. I've read that adding enough structure to block line of sight or whatever is key to limiting aggression; aggression seems to be the main issue with most sunfish. I've also read if you're keeping more than one, keep at least five to diffuse aggression. I'm plan to catch some really young ones in Sligo Creek, they are the prettiest ones I have caught anywhere so far and there's tons of them; I just need to find my small hooks.

It would be cool if they bred but I'm not counting on that - I just want them to be happy. I'll add a picture in a couple days after I add some driftwood to show how I plan to set it up for green sunfish.

I'm also hoping trying to set the tank up as a Walstead tank, I have a mineralized topsoil substrate and I'm hoping the pants will get a little fuller in the next couple weeks.
