I recently started setting up a 29 gallon that I intend to be heavily planted and invert heavy. It has daphnia scuds ostracod, and snails. I havent for sure decided on fish but elassoma have caught my eye, and since I have about 10 daphnia window cultures, I've been contemplating using these for stocking, with intent to breed, but I'm worried the scuds will eat their eggs. Have I shot myself in the foot?

I don't think scuds will eat the eggs. I am working on a set up for Elassoma now that include scuds as their food source. The scuds I have mostly eat algae and dead plants. I use them to clean any sickly looking plants from any of my tanks. They do an amazing job. I wish I could get an ostracod culture to take off for me. I'm jealous.

Thanks for the reply! As far as the ostracod go, I started them in jars in my window, wild collected from pine grove and letorte park in pa, and simply feed some omega one veggie pellets. Daphnia weren't supposed to get in but they did and they're doing even better. Added a stem of elodea in each jar.
