Hi all,

It may be January...but snorkel season is just around the corner. I hope to really explore the rivers close to home this year, and I have sites marked throughout the area (western VA). I realized, though, that I don't have a clue when it comes to the upper Roanoke drainage, which isn't far from home and contains a wealth of fantastic species I'd love to see and photograph!

Google satellite and street view images make the South Fork Roanoke River, upstream of the city of Roanoke, look like a definite possibility..all I'm looking for is clarity.

Has anyone snorkeled or sampled it, or can anyone report on clarity? I know there was a convention there a couple years ago (wish I'd been a member then, would have been just down the road).

Thanks!

Derek Wheaton used to live in Blacksburg and may know of some spots (he's more active on facebook and instagram than this forum). Otherwise, you can probably find some new spots yourself by scouting on google maps and then in person.

I coincidentally just came across some of his fantastic Roanoke logperch footage from the area, thanks!
