After a several year break Dr. Zach Felix was able to revive the Bioblitz.  Although we were off campus, we were still in the same drainage at a private landowner location just a few miles north.  The weather was expected to be bad, but Dr Felix convinced us to give it s try and see what the weather would offer.  Turned out to be excellent advice as we seemed to have a perfect break in the weather for a few hours.

 

We sampled up the stream even though it was a little high and more murky than usual.  We were also able to see quite a few mussels thanks to some expertise in our group that knew what to look for.  We found:

Alabama Hogsucker

Speckled Madtom

Southern Studfish (smaller juveniles)

Sculpin

Cherokee Darter (no photos, federal listed species)

Blanckbanded Darter

Mobile Logperch

Bluegill Sunfish

Redbreast Sunfish
