A few weeks ago when I went to the Cane River in NC, instead of heading straight back home I ended up meeting with Derek Wheaton and he showed me around CFi. I didn't get many good pictures of it but I did get a few. Sadly most of the darters were uncooperative, including my favorite ones there the boulder darters. Bluemasks were in great color as well but were extremely shy .

Adult male Barrens topminnow, sadly near the end of his life but still holding onto some amazing colors

Male spring pygmy sunfish, such charming little dudes. Would love to see them in the wild one day

Pygmy sculpins, if only they were legal to keep in aquariums

Ashy darter, definitely my favorite non-Nothonotus species darter

Roanoke loggies, very impressive darters, these ones sported colors that put the local common and blotched loggies to shame

Pretty cool.

Derek being the Tennessee NANFA rep should host a tour of the CFI facility for regional members.

Combined with a snorkel trip to the Little River would be ideal.

Absolutely, would love to go back to both.

I've heard the population has gone into decline recently but would love to try to photograph some wild ashy darters there come spring. Marbled darters in spawning dress would also be fun to see. Got to see a few when snorkeling with Derek but couldn't get close enough for pictures
