I've been looking into a guide to the fishes of Ohio, and from a brief bit of googling there look to be a couple options. What do folks recommend?

A Naturalist’s Guide to the Fishes of Ohio
By: Daniel L Rice(Author), Brian Zimmerman(Author)
391 pages, colour photos, colour distribution maps

THAT is the one you want.  If you can swing it, also get:

Fishes of Ohio (2nd Revised edition) by Milton B Trautman

ISBN 0814202136 ISBN-13 9780814202135 Pages 816 Edition 2nd Revised edition Publisher Ohio State University Press Published

1986

The first one has the latest published information.  The second one has lots of historical information.  Taxonomy has changed a bit since the Trautman book.  It was first published in the 1950's or 60's.

If you can find a first edition of Trautman, that is a treasure.

Thank you, that first one wasn't even on my radar! Both are now high on my wantlist.

The Zimmerman book is one of the best out there and has actual collection sites and high quality photos of each species.  That is without a doubt where I would start.

Thanks again, I now know that I'll be attending college in NE OH and am excited to explore its streams. A good guide is a must have, glad to know which one to grab!
