I went to the providence dam in Grand Rapids, Ohio today and found tons of Long Nose Gar spawning. however they were all congragated in one small area. what im confused about is why that one small area? the area they were wound at was all around the area below that dam but we only found them in one spot. so its not like they were confinded to the specific area due to the habitat. any info or knowledge of why?

several males will attend a few females...if you expand this number to a very large group of gars (several groups of several males attending several females) you will have one massive group of gars. this phenomenon takes place with longnose gars (and im sure other species) in several different areas throughout their range.
this also makes sense since in a given area (whether that be a river or section of a river) the gar populations tend to spawn at the same time, therefore this grouping event will take place like you have seen. definitely a sight to behold!--
