I mess withe crayfish a lot, mostly as a potential human food. A student of mine is studying he Papershell / Calico Crayfish Faxonius immunis where we are making some interesting observations. Her study population has some major reproductive biology differences compared to Papershells I worked with 30 years ago. Mine came into berry in late fall with larger salmon colored eggs. Hers are coming into berry now with much smaller and nearly black eggs. From this I have a theory and she has to do a lot more measuring. My hand used in both images.
Mine.
