I have had this tank up and running for nearly two months..and finally today put in some fish.
It's completely "pre-cycled" with shrimp, snails, and all the assorted bacteria on the plants.
All of the plants other then a heavy coating of java moss on the stump, are local native plants.
The fish are I "think" weed shiners and 7 central mudminnows.
A couple of the muddy's are really interesting color.
Trying to photograph the mudminnows has been a frustrating experience! All of them immediately staked out
assorted nooks and crannies..but only one of them chose a "crannie" that faced the front of the tank!
They have been out a bit more the last hour..so hopefully in a day or two they will be a bit more willing subjects.
Total count is 14 shiners and 7 mudminnows. I am hoping that given the good water movement I have, and heavy planting..I have not overstocked the tank. Again...it's completely cycled, so there should hopefully not be any issues at least in that regard.
Anyway...

And...now some of the residents:
Weed shiners? Not sure, really..but they are the closest I could get(I am pure rookieness at small fish ID here...please bare with me!)

And some of the frustrating mud minnows...I WILL get a clear pic of them eventualy...

Very Nice! I love the small fish and the big well planted tanks. Very natural looking.

Sorry for the late reply here.
The plants, as far as I can tell, are as follows:
Ground cover consists of dwarf hairgrass, and some kind of tiny sword plant.
The taller plants are a mix of foxtail, and elodea. I also have a few tall sword-type plants, and one water lilly(a narrow leaf dwarf type...seems to be settling in very well.
I am about due for a water chance, in the last few day's it's started to yellow up a bit.

i'm not an expert on shiners but I'm guessing those are blacknose or blackchin shiners. Both quite similar to weed shiners though and who knows you may have some of each or all three.

I think you are right, weed shiners are supposed to be extinct in Michigan, but both of the above species are well known.
I think they are blacknose, now.
