I just had a mosquitofish I caught on saturday drop about 50 babies in a tank with my baby gar. I havent seen the gar eat any yet. Has anyone seen a gar eat a Gambusia? Actually as Im typing this, I just saw the gar try to catch one. Although not successful, I think this may have answered my question. I know in the past my longear sunfish would eat mosquitofish. And with mosquitofish's need to breed, I found it an easy source of food for them without having to seine or buy minnows.

Will gar eat Gambusia?

There is a discussion going on on the NANFA mailing list about gambusia killing and eating baby gar. I'm pretty sure the gar will eat the gambusia given the opportunity.

My baby gars are about 2 inches long, and of course the baby Gambusias are about 1/4" long. If anything, the gambusias may be too small for the gar to bother with right now.
