It is inconvenient to have your only cheap ... excuse me, light duty ... net break off the handle when you're on a long-awaited expedition 500 miles from home. Word.
(However, I have also broken two Perfect Nets ... but both developed a crack and gave advance notice of impending failure. I blame abuse, too much muscling the nets through heavy Florida vegetation and/or lifting a gallon or two of mud.)
Whatever kind, take two nets. In the long run, it's no more expensive and its good insurance.
Besides, if you didn't have 2 nets, what would you let that co-worker/neice/neighbor who said "What? you catch your own fish?" use when you took him/her with you to the nearest neat wet spot ?

OK so instead of starting a new thread I'll hijack this one and continue it. 
It looks like I'll probably be in the market for a new dipnet. It's been about 10+ years since I bought my first one, which lasted me until a couple of years ago, which is the last time I saw it (got lost in one of several moves over the last 2 or 3 years). That dipnet was from a mom & pop baitshop somewhere (not here).
Got a link for a good dipnet? What mesh size is ideal?

Check out The Perfect Dipnet, sold by Jonah's Aquarium who has a connection on this Forum through Commercial Vendors. The net is at least close to perfect.
His web site has been borked for awhile. I dropped him a PM, but he's been off this site for a few weeks as well.

I have found that with the fine mesh type net, I cannot scoop as fast, especially in faster or deeper water. I get more use out of the larger mesh (I think around 3/16"?). Which I can net with "the quickness." One way I have found to extend the life of the Dick's nets is to split some 1" clear tubing lengthwise and put it around the rim. Tighten that down with "zip strips". This strengthens the hoop, and more importantly prevents ripping the net from scraping on rocks etc.... This does not however prevent the weak handles from breaking. I only use the "Stock" net from Dick's for light duty. The one I use most, I made myself out of the larger mesh net from a broken Dick's net, 3/4" PVC for the hoop, strapped on the tubing, and bolted it to a fiberglass handle from the hardware store. You could back a truck over it. One day soon I'll post some pics, as I am in the market for a new digital camera.

I have both, and I'll tell you something. That metal on the perfect dipnet gets COLD when it is chilly outside.
Try some glacier gloves or other type of neoprene glove. In my younger years I got into these when I used to do late (really late) Fall surfishing. Wouldn't be caught without them now in the winter when I'm on the water.

A real dip net. It is not cheap if you have to replace it every two or three years. This is the last net you will ever buy. Johnas bags fit these nets for replacements. Buy cheap stay back and weap.
Well something like that. Here is a proffesional dip net with fiberglass handle. Net fills the inside of the aluminum frame so it does not scrape the bottom.
