Rainbow darter or mottled sculpin? Which is better in your opinion? I have a spare 20 gallon tank, and I cant decide between sculpins or darters, so I want to hear what ya'll think.

No offense fishlvr, but that is kind of like asking whether you should buy a corvette or a jeep. There is no real answer, as they are so different and can be enjoyed for different reasons and in different ways. I would always buy the jeep by the way.

That's true. I just needed to know which was easier to care for.

Easier to care for is probably the darters. They like current and prefer live or frozen foods, but can be trained to take pellets of flakes.

Sculpin need cold water and almost always want live fish for food. They tend to swallow anything that can fit in their mouth... and they are ALL mouth.

Ok. Thanks. I think I might go with rainbows or orangethroats. Not sure yet. I might end up flipping a coin. I don't want both because I kind of just want a species tank.

You will be much happier with a darter, they will get to know you and are much more active than sculpins. They are a lot easier to care for too.

The facility I worked at got sculpins in right after I left. From what I gathered, they were a lot of work to care for, keeping their water cold enough and feeding. I helped care for darters while I was there and they were one of the easiest species to care for. They really respond to your presence (food? you have food? feed us food!) and I must say they are more attractive than sculpins.
