Yesterday, June 17th 2007, the Washington Township Community Park in Avon, Indiana had there first annual Wildlife festival. The event went well and quite a few people learned more about what was in there backyard so to speak. The NANFA booth had quite a few interested queries and some of the people couldn't believe all the different species of fish that lived in the creek running through the park. They all know what is in the man-made pond because of what had been stock. The 6"-7" Northern Hogsucker was a real hit. He was called anywhere from a catfish to a Pleco. All the fish survived the heat and the somewhat cramped conditions. They are already planning the one for next year. They are talking about having it earlier in the spring or more towards the fall when the heat isn't so bad. Several other groups had animals there and did little presentations and then took their animals home. I have attached a couple of the pictures of the display.
On August 25th they are having a fishing derby in the lake and have asked if i would come back and setup the display and show the fisherman some of the fish that are not normally seen. Have to look at my schedule and see what is going on. Probably will be able to do it tho.

That looks great Bill! Thanks you for taking the time to promote NANFA in such a way as well as introducing native fish to so many unsuspecting festival goers. You never know who is effected and how by these events.

That's a lotta weight for a portable table! (Looks like about 50 gallons total.)

Thanks everyone. Actually the tanks are 2- 10 gallons and 1- 5.5 gallon. These tables are actually quite strong. I have put 6- 10 gallons on a 6' table with no problems. I trust the newer molded ones over the older wooden ones.
I am already thinking about next years display. Add more tanks with just 2 spieces in each with the tanks labeled. Probably add the crayfish since some children asked about them. Quite a few of the adults actually asked how good is the stream running through the park. I am pretty sure I came up with 18 spieces while seining so the diversity is still there. Like to try again in the fall and next spring since it has easy access.

Thanks again,
Bill F.

I will be camping down at Turkey Run next weekend (same watershed as yours???), maybe I can stick a net into Sugar Creek to see what I can catch.
