Over the last six months I have been collecting bluegill from all over the U.S. Seen some really cool patterns of variation. Collections from most localities were quarantined for >45 days before individually tagged. During quarantine animals treated for haulling stress, bacterial infections and external parasites using theraputics / medications obtained through the ornamental fish trade industry (expensive!). Quarantine worked very well although fish tended to loose condition. Two lots obtained at the end of the collection season were not properly quarantined. One was from Reel Foot Lake, TN and another was from a fish farm in Georgia. Both had infestations of anchor worm although Reel Foot parasites were observed initially only on contaminant fliers and orange spotted sunfish. Lernea loads remained low until we mixed infected specimens from the locations then an infestation like no other ensued. Reel Foot bluegill appeared immune until this event although even with the infestation they got relatively low loads and the Lernea growing on them did not get as large as those on the other fishes. We are in the process of eradicating the Lernea but the Fluke-Tabs we are using upsets the bio-filtration. Can Dimilin be used without problems on filtration. Can it be trusted with sunfish larvae?

There is an article on Koi Vet website that would indicate that it is safe.
