Partners for Clean Streams, Inc.
Job Announcement
Position Title: Executive Director
Status: Part-Time Employee
Supervisor: Board of Directors
Date Posted: July 27, 2007
Location: metro-Toledo, OH
The Partners for Clean Streams, Inc. (PCS) is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as Executive
Director to this recently formed nonprofit organization committed to improving the waterways of
Northwest Ohio for the benefit of all who to live, work, and play in our area.
The Organization:
Partners for Clean Streams, Inc. (PCS) is a recently formed 501©3 non-profit community
organization with an interest in supporting local and regional water quality improvements in the
metro-Toledo area primarily Lucas, Ottawa, and Wood counties. Partners for Clean Streams is
striving for abundant open space and a high quality natural environment; adequate floodwater
storage capacities and flourishing wildlife; stakeholders who take local ownership in their
resources; and rivers, streams, and lakes that are clean, clear and safe.
PCS is pleased to announce that it has merged with the Maumee RAP. As a result of this merger,
the Maumee RAP is no longer directly affiliated with TMACOG. It stands as an independent
organization to deliver the wide range of programs, projects, and community outreach efforts
associated with water quality improvements that have been of long standing interest to the Maumee
RAP community.
Partners for Clean Streams will provide many community education and fundraising projects, such
as: Get the Lead Out! and Clean Your Streams. They intend to help TMACOG to continue to
provide the Student Watershed Watch program. In addition, through a PCS/RAP cooperative
endeavor, PCS has received nearly $600,000 from The Joyce Foundation to implement three
projects that will lead to direct improvements of our waterways and $50,000 from Ohio EPA to
assist with further establishing PCS as a community organization to improve water quality.
Additional information about the organization and its programs can be found at
www.PartnerForCleanStreams.org or at www.MaumeeRAP.org.
The Position:
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for PCS’s efforts to build and maintain strong and
effective working relationships with state and local governments, environmental community, and
area citizens through project management, event coordination, and watershed planning.
The ED must ensure that the PCS maintains long-term budgetary health. This requires support from
foundations and individual major donors. The ED must be a leader who promotes the research,
development, and maintenance of grant opportunities and the successful fulfillment of grant goals
and deadlines. This requires the skill and ability to develop and sustain relationships with
foundations and their officers. Of equal importance are the development of relationships with and
commitments from individual donors.
The ED is responsible to the Board of Directors, and must be committed to building strong
relationships with the Board members, helping them to serve the organization in the most effective
ways.
The position will require some evening and/or weekend work. Overnight travel may be
occasionally necessary. A valid Ohio Drivers License with reliable transportation is required.
The Qualifications:
The Executive Director must have integrity, high energy, and the initiative to shape the future of
PCS and our region’s environmental efforts to improve water quality. The ED should possess
strong leadership qualities and experience in an environmental or other public interest organization
or government agency. They must have experience with and enthusiasm for fundraising, the
cultivation of foundations and other granting agencies, preparation of grant proposals, and the
development of a committed base of major donors.
He or she must have knowledge on a broad range of water quality and Great Lakes environmental
issues. The ED must have proven ability to work self-directed and as a team member as well as
motivate volunteers and committee members, manage projects, create and implement long range
plans, and communicate with a broad range of audiences. Excellent people skills and experience in
building and maintaining constructive board relations and operations are required. Specifically (but
not limited to), the ED is responsible for assisting the organization in regional watershed project
planning efforts including the completion and implementation of the Maumee Area of Concern
Stage 2 Watershed Restoration Plan for PCS, the successful coordination of established annual
community events, and administrative duties for the PCS Board of Directors and its
committees/teams.
The minimum educational qualifications include graduation from a recognized college or
university with a Bachelors Degree. A graduate degree with specialization in environment, natural
resources, planning, nonprofit management, or public administration is preferred. Knowledge of
environmental and economic issues, natural history, is highly desirable. Proficiency in MS Office
software is required; knowledge of GIS software is highly desirable.
Salary and benefits:

expected total of 1040 hours per year. The salary range is $20.00 to $25.00 per hour depending
upon qualifications and experience. Medical, dental and vision insurance will not be provided or
