Figured I'd put this here as it pertains to collecting. Anyway I was wondering it southern South Carolina has any good bluefin populations. I noticed there are some good populations above Charleston but is that it for bluefins in South Carolina? Thanks

As far as I know they are only in the Charleston area. Some books say they may be non-native to SC and thats why that is the only population around here. I collect mainly just to the east of Charleston and never catch any there although there is plenty of suitable habitat, so it appears that the population is very localized. There are some other SC guys on here that probably know more about this than I do.

The bluefin population in SC is restricted to the lower Cooper River below Lake Moultrie. We get them in most Cooper river tribs there around Goose Creek and Moncks Corner. They can be very abundant in mats of Hydrilla.

Mzokan is correct that these are considered to be an aquarium release population. There is a similar population right around Wilmington, NC.
