I have been trying to breed these fish for 2 years with no luck. 

 

I have 7 fish: 4 males, 3 females.

 

They are in a 20g tall with natural gravel bottom and directed flow from the filter.

 

There is a stack of sand stones from their native stream I hoped they would spawn on. From the little info I can gather, they are "crevice spawners". 

 

The males color up greatly and exhibit spawning behavior but I haven't found any eggs or fry. I assume they are eating them?

 

The females can get beat up sometimes so I have to separate them. 

 

On top of the sand stones, I've tried putting in lots of java moss.

 

I've tried putting in a glass plate filled with rocks for them to spawn over in case they are egg scatterers. 

 

If anyone has information, or knows where I could find it, I would greatly appreciate it. 

 

Would there be any info in American Aquarium Fishes by Robert J. Goldstein? I can't find anything online.

Yes, so over here in the USA these are called just Red Shiner (that may help you find info).

Also yes, Goldstein discussed these fish on pages 162 and 163 of his book.

 

To summarize he says that bait dealers breed them.  He mentions spawning in aquarium settings with java moss,  with saucers of stones, with sunken mops, and with pleated cannister filters.  He mentions feeding meaty foods predominately.
