A friend shared some pictures of a mussel shell with some interesting attachments, little round, white circles/spheres. The shell was collected from the St. Croix River, MN/WI during May 2024. See two attached photos. To my eye, they appear to be from some fish, but they may be from another animal. If the size, color, and arrangement of the circles are familiar to you, please share your thoughts on what they might be. For example, I'm familiar with Johnny Darters nests - the embryos are usually laid close to one another in a large, single-layer sheet. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

(On my screen, the images are corrupted and unreadable. Please let me know if you can see the two pictures. If they are unreadable to you, do you have any uploading suggestions? I've tried uploading .heic, .jpg, and .pdf formats.)
