A proposal has been made to the NANFA BOD for NC to host the NANFA convention next year in and around Greensboro. This, of course, makes me very happy since it is so close. The area has an amazing amount of diversity with several different river systems within a relatively short drive. Fritz Rohde and Gerald Pottern, among others, will be heading this up so you can trust that the speakers will be equally impressive.

I will post details as they are available.

Greetings Fellow Fish Heads:

The North Carolina contingent is hosting next year's convention, most
likely the weekend of June 8-10 in Greensboro, NC. This location is
within easy driving distance of four major river drainages. We are
planning for one day of talks and banquet and two days of collecting.
We're still negotiating the best arrangement but they all want to know
how many are coming and how many will be lodging with them. We can
guesstimate but it would be very helpful to us if we knew you were
coming or seriously considering coming.

Please don't reply to the list but directly to me. Thanks.

I want to bring my family but I have two children that will not be able to attend the sampling events. Do others bring their entire family? If so, what does the rest of the family do when the group heads out to sample?

Do the wives and children get together and participate in dry activities as a group?

Dustin..What type of licenses, permits, Etc. will be needed before collecting and taking home some fish from the convention this year? There are a couple fish in that area I personally want to get a hold of (MRBD, rosysides and firey black shiner to be specific). I want to make sure I get all the proper paper work before I go.

This is probably an annual statement as it should be, but I wanted to add for those planning on attending the convention :

Please don't plan on taking every specimen collected. Create a list of species that you NEED to have and start from there. A lot of these species can be obtained elsewhere via trading or offers from other board/NANFA members. Some of these species will not be found in numbers that everyone will be able to take them. Also, make sure you have the resources to keep these fish for the length of their lives.

This year, most, if not all, of my collections will be of the digital format. Don't usually have to worry about those making it back alive and they generally last a lot longer.

Yes, families are welcome. We'll have info on nearby attractions, parks, shopping, etc from the local visitors bureau. Just off the top of my head there's Guilford Courthouse Nat Military Park (rev war site), Alamance Battleground, Spencer train museum (where the "Wreck of the Old 97" was hauled in), Old Salem living history village, Burlington Outlet Malls, NC Zoo (30 miles), Uwharrie Natl Forest, Hanging Rock St Pk, Pilot Mtn St Pk, other museums & stuff in Durham (50 miles) and Raleigh (80 miles).

We'll also have a spouse & kids special rate to attend the Friday night banquet, and the banquet talk should be of general interest to everyone (no i dont know what its gonna be yet - any offers?). I dont think we've specifically planned family events in the past (others chime in?) but you can certainly post messages here to find out who else is coming with families, kids ages, interests, etc.
