Mystery Clams

What kind of clams are these? They look a lot like those introduced Asian clams.

Yeah, I'd say that they're Corbicula Asiatic clams.

Well that sucks. They've infested my entire creek. I never knew we had clams back there until I found this REALLY tiny clear clam. Then I started finding these guys. Are their larvae parasitic? I read somewhere that they are, and if so, I don't want their babies living in my fish.

The larvae of native Unionid mussels are parasitic, in the form of glochidia. I don't think that the Asiatics do that. The effect of Asiatics on local ecosystems is still in some debate. They definitely take advantage of disrupted ecosystems, but they may not have a strong negative influence on native mussels who are usually negatively affected by other factors. Thank God we don't have zebra mussels. I've heard they've clogged drain pipes and sewage lines.
