I plan on going to Virginia to collect some mountain red belly dace this spring. What is a good month to search for them so I can start planning my trip?

Any time from now through May.  So plenty of time to get out there and find them.  Shy of this nice snow storm about to hit us today, the days are growing longer and I'm sure the boys are starting to get all fired up.  Have fun.

Where did you plan on collecting? Upper Passage creek has them but you have to wait til June. Cant collect there until after trout season.
