Howdy folks... There's a great thread running to point people toward a logical choice to join NANFA. If the current issue of American Currents doesn't express all the ideas present as to "why", I'm not sure what else there is to say about it. This has got to be my favorite issue, ever. And not just because of the eye candy:

Farmertodd Examines the Summer 2007 AC Centerfold.

This issue is the essence of NANFA. It kicks off with a report from one of our Conservation Research Grants on the Fed Listed Vermillion Darter, contains pages of natural history information on Mountain brook lamprey, American eels, and darters of Westylvania, AND has another report from Mr. Native Breeder, Bob Muller, on his work with pirate perch.

But the item I think is most pertinent to anyone interested in conservation, is Chris Scharpf's article "What Exactly is a Species". I think this should be a note or expanded into a feature in EVERY conservation rag across the country. It is the most approachable synopsis of the species concept I've read, accessible to any interest level.

Want to see this all for yourself?

Todd, your "reading room" is airy and spacious compared to mine!

I have tried to hold onto all my A/C's over the years, but I almost always windup giving them away. Tropical hobbyists are just fascinated by the magazine. Hobbyists love it because you read all kinds of good hobby stuff. Scientists love it because you can publish stuff that isn't appropriate for the big journals.

I just joined NANFA this morning. Am I able to get the summer edition of American Currents? Just closed on my house and had $23.76 left over. $23.36 = NANFA Membership + a burrito from the roach coach. Nice deal. Thanks for all the hard work that all the NANFA staff puts out, great site.

I have to say that I was seriously impressed with the quality of AC. Gorgeous cover and fantastic content. I seriously wasn't expecting something so professional. Definitely worth the price of admission. :)
