Ok the sites are picked out...
Saturday May 31st...
We will start at Ellis Dam on the Muskingum River, next we will move upstream in the drainage to the town of Dresden and sample Wakatomika Creek and possibly a second spot on the Muskingum in Dresden where there are some backwaters that are only attached during high water. Then we will head up to the town of Warsaw and try to get in two 2 spots on the Walhonding River (one of which is some swamp habitat that is only connected during high water), then time permitting we can stop at the junction of the Kokosing and Mohican Rivers on our way back where they form the Walhonding.
Sunday June 1st...
Float trip on the Kokosing River from SR 62 down stream to Riley Chapel Rd. This is one of the two most diverse stretches of River in Ohio.
I would like to start Sampling both days at 9am, this means if you want to car pool on Saturday you need to be at my house by 8am because Ellis Dam is about an hour from here, maybe even a little more. We are only about 10 minutes from the start point for Sunday's float trip so timing is not quite as critical that day and parking is a little easier as well.
The link below should show the approximate route of Saturdays trip. If we get a lot of rain between now and the scheduled date I would prefer to go anyways rather than reschedule. We likely will not sample the same sites but I can certainly find plenty of places to go even when the water is high in a lot of places. This may also cause the float trip to get moved up stream some. In the case that there is actually a serious flood the even will have to be canceled all together. At this point I'm not sure when a high water date would be but it would likely be in late June. If you have any questions or need more specific directions send me a pm and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
