Since when in the hell are freshwater mussels on dinner plates acrossed America and when has that contributed towards the decline of freshwater mussels in say the past 350 years? This is turning into a weekly thing with garbage in and crap out. Seriously though where does a load like that come from. "The main ingredient in your mussels marinara". Perhaps the LiveScience author would mind trying to eat a dish made with freshwater mussels sometime.

Gad, you're right, that's an amazingly stupid opening paragraph on that story. The writer obviously has no idea that freshwater mussels are very different from marine blue mussels, Mytilus edulis. Freshwater mussels are edible but that's one food habit that American settlers didn't pick up from the Indians.
