I am relatively new to Ohio, but used to live in Wisconsin. There is an online taxonomic key I used for Wisconsin fishes at http://www.wiscfish.org/fishid/ It has hundreds of full color close up pictures to aid in identification, a glossary with color photo examples if you dont know what a term means, a taxonomic key that can take you through family or species identification, and a query system that lets you input what you know about a fish and it will give you a list of species it could be. All in all it is a very handy resource even though it isnt portable. All I did was photograph a fish streamside, take some notes on spine or ray counts and other features, let it go then head home to my computer and compare.

Does anyone know of other such online resources for Ohio or any other areas?

I do not know of a similar online resource in Ohio. Your best bet is "fishes of Ohio" Trautman. "Fishes of Tennessee" is also a fantastic book, and can be applied to many Ohio fish.
