Here are some pics from several collecting trips I made over the summer, most are from the Francis Marion NF near Charleston, South Carolina. The pictures aren't exactly "teleost" quality :-) , but i'm working on it.

Those crazy carolina redfin pickerel! I have yet to find one in VA that even remotely resembles that.

nice pictures! and there are several sunfish there that got my attention being such a sunfish nut... Banded, Mud, and Flier.

Same here. Redfin also caught my eye. Beautiful fish! Wish I could get my hands on some of those.

drewish: do you think the pickerel color differences are regional? or does it have to do with spawning?

I think it is just the location of where I find mine. Dustin says they find theirs in SC in very tannin stained waters. We saw some nice ones in NC during the convention as well. And I've seen pictures of the MD redfins and they are really red. I'm hoping to find more locations for them in my area but a lot of the places are hard to get to. I need to find other people in the area that will go sampling with me as I don't like going to those remote backwater swamps alone.

:shock: :shock: I'd love a redfin that bright, the grass around here are beautiful, but that redfin is amazing!! :shock: :shock:
