Has anybody kept them in a tank by themselves? I'd be interested in knowing how it went. I hear pygmies prefer live food and lots of plants. Are they picky about temp? I'd guess they're not seeing they are basicly ditch and slough fish. What about their temperment? How would they do in a community tank?

Those fish are so tiny. I keep them with least killifish, my galaxy danios, bristlenose, pygmy cories and panda cories and cherry shrimp they all coexist peacefully
I have no idea myself what exact species they are and I lost my digital camera somewhere in florida so go figure! I've been keeping an eye out for a good deal for the exact model that I lost on ebay.
Cheers

Live food is pretty much a must. The neatest thing I seen them do was eat H. formosa fry. Looked like a smallmouth bass coming up from the bottom to nail a Rapala.
They do not mess with fish other than fry. When I kept them with other fish they were less concerned about it than other pygmies. As long as they get enough food they should be fine. Alone though they really shine, you can see them more often.
Here is what I do to make them and me happy. Pack the back of a ten gallon to twenty gallon tank with java moss and other plants. Leave the front wide open. Always put the food in right at the front of the glass. Force them to come out to eat. After a while they should come out when they see you in front of the tank to investigate if any food will drop in.

Does anyone know if they hybridize? I'm thinking about if I had more than one kind in a tank.

Great! I appreciate the input. I think I might just have to give these guys a try.

It was mentioned somewhere else (can't remember where) that it is possible but unlikely.

They've got very FAT on red cherry shrimplets that gets unlucky same with Least killifish fry. So I think Red Cherry Shrimps are the key to keeping them fat and happy.
