For some reason I'm likeing my rasbora guess right now, I know almost nothing about the group but I did a google search and looked through some images and the scale size/shape and head shape mouth orientation seem to fit. Also the fact it came from the aquarium trade epicenter of North America. Here's one of the immages I found, I encourage others to take a look at a few and see what you think, this is an out there ID so I am by no means sure, I was already wrong anyways.

Holy crap if that doesn't look like it. I thought it was some sort of shiner. The guy at Elmer's thought it looked like a rasbora, but then compared it to the rasboras in their tanks, and said they don't have any rasboras like that, so maybe it really is a shiner. I said "just give me it, please", that you guys would help me figure it out. So it really is some sort of rasbora, a kind they don't sell at Elmer's, but apparently exists at the fish farm. Hmmm.

They have redtail rasboras like this at Elmer's:
http://en.wikipedia....ackline_rasbora
But the lack of a red tail fooled me, and apparently the guy at Elmer's, too.

Dang! I thought I had some sort of interesting southern shiner.

Miner not Minner? Miner digs in the ground, Muh-I-ner ( long I sound) Minner, Muh-in-ner. What is going on? For sure it is going to die. :D :D :) :(

Had to throw that in there Irate.

I don't think it's a Brilliant rasbora like in the picture, but I guess it could be a washed-out specimen or a closely related species. We've been seeing a lot of new raboras lately now that new lands have been opened to collectors for the first time in decades. When I first saw the pic it positively screamed "rasbora" at me, but I discounted it because I was trying to think of what native it could be.

I think I might know a couple of guys who might be able to pin this down for you:

Mike Hellweg
St.Louis fishstore owner and specialist in rare asian fishes. Known as "Finny" on Aquabid, and makes frequent article contributions to the major hobby magazines.

Pete Mang
North Tonawanda, NY, owner of one of the most amazing fishstores in this country. Often considered the go-to guy when it comes to locating rare and very newly discovered fish. A legendary figure on Aquabid, he very often runs auctions for the newest and rarest cyprinids to hit the market.

Whatever it is, it shure is purdy.

I will definatly back up the rasbora idea. It has a body and mouth shape almost identical to that of spot-tail, elegent, and scissortail rasboras. It's just lacking the same colorations. When I first saw the picture of this fish I immediatly thought of my scissortail rasbora in my tropical tank. Very cool fish.

Is the store "That Fish Place"? That place ROCKS. They have a HUGE tank full of small community fish w/ full sized stumps, etc. Really cool. Lots of stuff and good prices too.

Yeah, that's the name, or something very very similar. ( THE fish place? ) Don't confuse it with the huge mailorder place in Lancaster, PA which is definitely called "that fish place."
