OK, the topic of the Official Catfish Alliance Pledge has raised its ugly head. At one point I had a working pledge, but I wasn't too happy with it. Now I can't find/remember it and it needs to be posted in the sticky thread which was created for that purpose. "OHIO VALLEY NATIVES" will not work - it's not southern and doesn't make sense anyway.

So, would youse guys like to take a stab at creating/recreating a/the pledge, so we can be all official and everything?

I'm not a CA member but here it is ;P

Here's a start, feel free to play with it or come up with something different.
To be a catfish is a calling;
We're not quite like those other folks.
Quickmud is no cause for stalling;
I Slide down stream banks without falling,
And laugh at Irate's stupid jokes.
I pledge to ever wield my seine
At the drop of dime of hat.
The madtom sting shall cause no pain -
Crying out will bring me shame;
The catfish does not welcome that.
I am a lowly catfish, yes.
We are few and we are humble.
But as a catfish I am blessed:
Black water relieves my stress
And friends make sure I never stumble.

Consider yourself an official, card-carrying member! You have fulfilled the sole requirement.

Hey, that pledge wasn't half bad. We should try to work in Robert's lines. Be sure to keep the format:

I can't remember if I joined in this awhile back or not (I'm too southern for my northern climate and really like greens and sweet tea)...

I suppose I was kicked out for the Gar statements though :)
After all these are the real fishy jewels of the south....

Ummm..ok anyways....Carry on.

To every creek and slough,
I promise I will go,
I'll carry nets,
I'll push the float,
and always come back for mo'.

You have my permission to use it.

Hey Bruce, can you maybe rework it to fit the meter and the rhyme pattern? Or maybe we need to start over from scratch and work around your and Robert's lines. Keep 'em coming - it will gel.

I think we should all agree to a format so that everybody can add their own part of the pledge without it seeming cobbled together. Doesn't have to be the one I started with - it could be anything.

We'll see. I had an inspiration for a quasi-haiku structure, which has the advantage of being short and to the point. But everyone's a critic(!), I understand that.

Not dismissing you, Bruce-ter! This thing is wide open. Your verses have a song-like quality which I quite like. Maybe we could make it where we have to sing the song when we have our meetings!

I just assumed it was meant to be sung; otherwise, it'll sound like a bunch of goofy frat boys trying to pass for sober.
