Hello All,
I just joined this forum. I live in central ohio. I am interested in setting up a 90 gallon aquarium with Orange spotted sunfish madtoms and maybe a couple of others. I have never collected my self as an adult bus spent alot of time as a child siening below the Griggs dam. Unfortunatly that is no longer the nicest or safest place to collect anymore, I remenber seeing Rainbow darterts haden falls. I do not know if you can go there any more. Anyone local to my area have any ideas of places for me to go?
I hope to learn alot about natives. I have extensive experience with central and south american cichlids. I also work in a vet hospital that occasionly does fish work. Anyway thats me.

Ain't nature grand!

Welcome to the forum!

There are several forum and NANFA members in Ohio. I'm sure they'll be glad to go collecting with you and/or tell you good collecting sites.

Welcome to NANFA,

Since you are in central Ohio, you are fairly close to some great streams. We are probably going to be planning an Ohio regional meeting this coming spring. Ohio has a great support system. Again welcome aboard.

Thom,
Welcome! Nice to see another NANFA member, another Ohio resident, and another Thom! If you ever want to head to the SW Ohio (Cincinnnati) area, I can show you plenty of good places to go. Just let me know!

I would be very interested in going to such a meeting if there is anything I can do to help let me know.

Thom, we will be working on setting up this regional meeting soon. I am hoping that it takes place in central Ohio. I would be your southern Ohio rep, and Scenicrivers, Matthew Smith would be your Northern Ohio rep. Please feel free to get with either one of us for more info. Ohio seems to be one of the best states for native enthusiasts.

Also Smbass (Brian Zimmerman) is probably very near you. Get out with him! Also in Columbus is the Museum of Biological Diversity, at OSU. Brian is a staff member there, and may be able to show you around.

I could definately show you around some time where I work. Unfortunately they are almost all dead fish but I could show you any species in Ohio and a whole lot more if you would like to stop in some time, visitors are always welcome. I also have been getting some great info on access sites for this spring trip we are planning so it should be a good one. Feel free to put in your 2 cents under the Midwest local eddition page.
