just think about it, Nanfa has been around for years as a high brow, almost intellectual association, and with-in the first 3 months of having it's own official forum, we have already started to pick out it's secret police uniform, now that is progress!!!!

what is the thread's topic again?

Supposed to be the discussion of Conservation Ethics Drew, but it has now gone to just being an ammusing rather silly thread....Which is OK.....I suppose.

We can get back to the rather serious intention later and in a new thread....There is alot to discuss here on this subject and I'm sure that when we do get down to it.... this will be quite a heated topic that will pit each other point by point into very pointed and direct statements.

Many of us do not really know each other well so I'm just showing and I hope others will show their lighter side and understand that we really are not always dead serious and we are not here to make new enemies with those we may disagree with....All of us do have a human side that is seperate from that which we portray online...Our differences are not really a weakness but a strength.

I feel it is not a bad thing to have a bit of fun and ammusement for a small bit here.....When this discussion really starts it is not going to be so fun.....This I can guarantee. Ethics is never an easy subject and normally no two will agree on the same ideas or concepts.

It is as I stated earlier not really possible to have a standard ethic given the fact each person comes to this hobby with different motives and reasons. When we really begin to discuss this issue most of us will disagree and disagree very strongly.

Well it sounds like a good idea, but mostly it scares me. It seems with sometimes ill conceived state laws and/or laws that were not really constructed with the context of aquarium keeping considered makes for some problems. Some will no doubt prefer to go along with whats out there whereas others may want to work to get that changed. Disagreement could be pretty devisive as ethics can get pretty personal. Unfortunately its quite common for human beings even those with high ideals to think a little too highly about their ideas, morality, ethics yet are quite able to rationalize their own ethical shortcomings. I didn't join NANFA for their ability to police me and to be honest native collectors are not even close to being a major danger to our natives. Plus realistically how well do you think this organization can enforce with good conscience any set of rules it might come up with. I'd be surprised to see many folks that have not at one time or another neglected or out right ignored already existing laws but I'm sure they were able to rationalize it. I've been around plenty long enough to have seen that by many who publically maintain an air of purity. Encourage ethical behavior. Leave the policing and judging to those better equipped and put all that energy to better use.

Armed python fan here.

I think it would be best to start by placing information up for some new forum members. Since this is an open forum many who join have interest in natives but may not have the experienece of of some of the veteran native fish aquarists.

A topic that plagues native fish keepers: When my (insert fish that grows too large for most aquariums) gets too big, can I let it go into the wild/private pond. This is something I think we can all discuss, understanding that new members will ask this from time to time. We can then direct them to good information about the perils of releasing aquarium fish (of any kind) into the wild.

Is this a good place to start? We'll get into the stormtrooper concept later.

Please keep in mind that this is mearly a discussion, it really is not a proposal to the BOD.

I agree very much with the above and I'm not really suggesting a NANFA ethics police, However, why not discuss the matter of conservation ethics further and much more indepth on a philosophical level.

This is the general concept and reason for this subforum and is indeed a good place to start.
Number 2: will most likely be the collection and selling of fish Illegally......
