Drew (I think he is a member here as Drewish) has recently sent me a small redfin. He is a really really good looking fish. I was just wondering what kind of experiences you guys have had with them and your tank setups and how big yours are. I really like this fish. Although I have to start working on getting him off live fish. I can't even get him to eat worms but I have only had him since Thursday. Anyways just wondering how you guys like these fish. I know one thing for sure is that they are an amazing lightning quick predator. Mine is staying with a largemouth bass and a bowfin as of now. Hopefully I will be moving atleast the bass and bowfin to the 55 soon by themselves but maybe the pickerel too. They are in a 29 as of now.

Yea I know they are not ideal tankmates but that is what they are for now. I hope I can move them around a bit in the next couple weeks. I am not worried about the bowfin and bass together. They have been tankmates for 3 or 4 months now. They are going to be going into my outdoor pond next year so don't worry I DO have the space for them. The pickerel hopefully will be in his own 55 gallon by that time maybe with a longear that a friend of mine has. I really would love to seperate the pickerel but as of now it just isnt doable. ASAP though I am planning on it.

Well right now he is on his fourth day of hunger strike and I am getting him to go towards the food at least. Maybe by today he will actually strike. I am trying long strips of shrimp wiggled around in the water to get him to think they are roseys. Hopefully he is dumber than he looks.

It is very difficult to get pickerel to eat non-live food. I trained one once, but I got it when it was about 1 inch long, and it still needed the food to be moving a bit. Started with frozen bloodworms. When it was larger, I would freeze feeder fish in bulk, thaw one, and shoot it through the hob filter flow. I had a nother that was only 2 inches when I got it, and it never got trained.
If your fish isn't very small, you will probably need to feed it live foods.

No use now....I found him dead on the bottom of the tank . I am soooo sad. You guys were very right about this. I was just hoping it would hold for maybe another week or two then he would have a tank to himself. The two years it took me to get one and I was to stupid to realize I might have problems. Now that is what you call taking things for adavantage. I am not completly sure it was the bass that killed him because he wasn't really beat up but I have a good feeling. Hopefully I can find another one soon. If you guys know of any please let me know. And Drew I am sorry I wasted your time and money....
