Do you want a pickerel? One or two can live out their entire lives in a 55g tank. Mudminnows are mini-predators, and can live in a 20 gallon tank all of their lives. It all depends on exactly what your looking for.

Depends on the size you get them at. You could keep them in a tank that size until they reach about 7 or 8", then they need to be put in a larger tank. I guess you could keep it in there all of its life, but its life wouldn't be near as long.

Where do you live? You should probably add your location to your profile.

I don't think they live that far north. Check in the vendors forum regularly. Sometimes they pop up.

Redfin pickerel are found in MD, just east of you. As I said in my PM, you can go with a 30g but eventually want something deeper, at least 18" such as a 40g breeder.

There are a few MD DNR folks on here so maybe they will chime in with some places you can look.

Maryland DNR Non-tidal Regulations
Start off with reading this. It is the abridged version. The blue booklet given out with a license every year also contains regs or you can try and find the enitre version of COMAR online.

Unfortunately (and oddly) the Maryland fish distribution website is down right now. Maryland Fish DistributionsIt's typically under "Want Data". It is not entirely up to date, and may be the reason is it down because we are in the process of updating before the holidays. It also only includes 1st-4th order streams no lakes/ponds etc.

No grass pike east of the mountains either (remeber the discussion a month or so ago), they are redfin in Maryland and can be found in many streams on the coastal plain.
