I have what I believe to be a juvenile dollar sunfish. Hopefully I can get some pictures soon.

I also have a juvenile green sunfish in another tank.

Can one mix green and dollar sunfishes?

I also have my dollar sunfish in a tank with a Spotted Dojo Loach (Asian Weather Loach)

Thanks

I have never owned dollar sunfish but I know they are a smaller speices and I beleive they are pretty calm. On the other hand greens are full out and agressive. They also get alot bigger than them. I think you may be able to do it while they are still small but once they hit sexual maturity they will start to pick eachother off. Also the greens I have are VERY agressive with food so I don't know if the dollars would even get any.

My dollar is very aggressive with food too.

Just as much as any green I have kept

But yes greens do get much bigger.

My dollar sunfish was found at the LFS.

I catch greens out of a local pond.

two sunfish of diffrent species should get along fine, exept you may want to get them on oppisite sides of the tank to feed them.

Most sunfish are aggresive, territorial and oppertunistic feeders. I have had some individuals get along with other species but generally I don't think this is the case. Compair them to African cichlids. If you are going to keep more than one its is best to overstock a bit with many individuals in order to lessen aggresion on any one individual, no matter what the species mix is. Larger sunfish will also eat smaller sunfish. If the green can fit the dollar in it's mouth it probably will eat it.

Well all fish will eat other fish if they fit in their mouth.

Very true, even my betta will eat fry given the chance. Some are more predatory than others though. For example, my firemouth ignored my topminnows even though a few could fit in his mouth, he just wasen't interested. My longear on the other hand ate a darter I never would have thought it could fit down it's throat. Feeding habits aside, they are territorial and sometimes with sunfish it does not matter if the species is different.

I figgure as long as the tank is big enough they each can seperate themselfs. If it doesn't work out them get one of those tank divider screans and seperate your fish.
