If you live in Western North Carolina and would like to collect sunfish on hook and line Lake Julian in Skyland is a place to do it.

Warmouth, green, redear, bluegill, pumpkinseed are all there but you mostly catch green sunfish.

A small hook baited with bread or worms works.

Also there are lots of mosquitofish (gambusia) in the lake's shallows and you can use a net to collect these for your lake, pond or aquarium.

Just a nice place for folks who want to catch sunfish for their ponds and tanks around Asheville, NC. Since it is a power plant lake there is good fishing in the fall as the water warms up but the air temperatures drop.

Sept- Dec is a good time to fish or collect in Lake Julian.

Other possible catches include: white sucker, blue tilapia, largemouth bass, and channel cafish.
