Duckman and I had a chance to check out three new spots over the weekend. I took a few photos from the first location.

We found the following fish (in no particular order).

Location was once a natural stream near the Illinois/Indiana border:
Grass pickerel
Lake chubsucker
Longear sunfish
Green sunfish
Rockbass
Central mudminnow
Pirate perch
Tadpole madtom
Yellow bullhead
Ironcolor shiner
Least darter
Striped shiner
Johnny darter

This location has some natural stream portion as well as canalized portions:
Striped shiner
Yellow bullhead
Longear sunfish
Grass pickerel
Green sunfish
Brook silverside
Carmine shiner
Bluntnose minnow
Hornyhead chub
Bluegill

The last location wasa beautiful site but not quite the diversity we had hoped for:
Striped shiner
Fantail darter
Hornyhead chub
Central stoneroller
Banded darter
Johnny darter
Smallmouth bass
Green sunfish

The last two locations we sampled rather quickly as the day was getting long.

As always, I had a great time in the water with Duckman.

(fish shown: Grass pickerel, Lake chubsucker juvenile & adult and ironcolor shiner).

Looks like you had a good day, making me jealous with all that diversity.

It was a beautiful day to be out collecting. We had a good day too. I don't think I've ever seen more pickerel.

Nice pics Teleost!

That place is full of them. It was a nice day to be in the water.

Here's a full size shot of an ironcolor:

I did some sampling in Northeastern Illinois in the Kankakee River area and found similar species to that, is that where you were?

Yes it is. We started near the Indiana state line in a small tributary of the Iroquois and worked our way north and west throughout the day. This is my home turf. If you ever happen to be in the area and would like a tour of the waters, just give me a little notice and I'll do my best to make sure you see the fish you'd like.

Welcome to the site NateTessler13. Glad to have you here.

I'm from the Northeastern Illinois area (Addison, a suburb of Chicago). I got around to quite a bit of sampling over the summer. Here is what I caught at *secret* Creek (a tributary of the Kankakee River) outside of Aroma Park, IL - on August 1st.

20- Hornyhead Chub
2- Ironcolor Shiner
3- Smallmouth Bass (one was over 15 inches long)
1- Northern Hogsucker
1- Spotted Sucker
10- White Sucker
2- Golden Redhorse
50- Striped Shiner (could have been Common Shiner, I recently learned better how to tell them apart)
5- Bluntnose Minnow
3- Redfin Shiner
2- Spotfin Shiner
2- Banded Darter
6- Johnny Darter
1- Least Darter
2- Central Mudminnow
1- Pirate Perch
2- Creek Chubsucker
2- Blackside Darter
3- Green Sunfish
10- Central Longear Sunfish
1- Orangespotted Sunfish
8- Grass Pickerel
10- Blackstripe Topminnow
1- Central Stoneroller Minnow
2- Yellow Bullhead
3- Tadpole Madtom

Some of these numbers are estimates, but the lower numbers are actuals. This stream was one of the more diverse that I sampled in Northeast Illinois this summer.
