We're glad you joined us. I don't know if everyone on the forum is an open book, but we'll see.

Now that's what I need to support my hobby... my own personal finance... then I wouldn't have to be the family finance, and I could just go stompin' around in streams all the time.

I think it's kind of like a finance, but in reverse?

Welcome Casey. Look forward to meeting you in Texas.

I got married, and I am still the finance. :D

The Red, in Tx/Ok at least, has paddlefish and shovelnose sturgeon. On the uncool fish side, there are more red shiners than you can shake a stick at.

I found this very nice Texas freshwater fishes site (scroll down).

Laid out by drainages or species. Would have been a good resource when I planned my last east Texas collecting trip.

I keep several different Natives. The red river pupfish are my favorite, they are short and stubby and scoot around. I obviously spelled fiance wrong...as a kid I often did not win spelling bee's. Anyways...I have rainwater killies and diamond killies. I am a part of the Dallas Killifish Association, so I try to keep a lot of the native killifish.

No, no, no that's not what I said... I'm a Cyprinid nut. Red Shiners are one our native invader types. THey are extremely competative, especially in degraded systems, and are very closely related to some of our endemics, and are thus a threat to their pops because of hybridization. It is my love of minnows that gives Reds the uncool status in my book. They are a pretty aquarium fish, though, if that's what you're in to.

Thanks for that clarification...

I didn't even think about that sort of relationship. Glad to see some others here that love minnows, I am surprised at how often our talk of native fish turns into a talk of sunfish and pickerel... when there are so many really cool minnows and darters out there that do so well in aqariums.
