Any idea if torpedo shaped minnow traps are legal in NC?

Thanks

Have you read your state's regulations? It pretty clearly states that "Minnow traps under the immediate control and attendance of the operator and not exceeding 12 " in diameter with funnel openings not exceeding 1" in diameter".

So a torpedo trap with a 2.25 inch opening is not legal?

Oh well

Sounds like you have to stand there with it (or nearby) and watch it. In other words, it appears you cannot leave it unattended for a few hours, then come back to it to check it. Is this true? Also, if the trap meets all other parameters of the law, except the entrance hole size, you could probably add some 1/4 x 1/4 galvanized mesh to decrease the hole size; making the hole 1" diameter. Of course check with the authorities on this matter first!

Yup you have to stand there and watch it while it's in the water
