I'm going to stat this thread by telling you what you are going to have to have to make this happen.

#1 An open top aquarium.

#2 Pendant lights

#3 Small pots about 4" across and 3" deep shaped like a bowl is best.

# 4 A swamp to comb through for trees best shaped for this type of cutivation.

# 5 A plastic kiddie wading pool to get your swamp trees started in.

# 6 Azolla to keep down the mosquitos

# 7 Potting soil and gravel.

# 8 When you are ready to tranfer the trees to your aquarium you will need about 6" of sand in your tank.

# 9 Lots of time, it takes two to three years for the trees to be ready to transplanted into an aquarium.

# 10 Most of my older trees I lost to a stray dog chewing them up, some were more than 10 years old and I still had them in a pool.

# 11 I you are lucky you might find a bigger tree that is suitable for transplanting but it will take at least a year for it to get rooted in good.
# 12 As soon as I get my high speed connection back I'll start sending pictures both from the field and from home to show you how this is done.
# 13 Mangrove trees are a lot easier to do and cuts the time involved down considerably and they grow under metal halides. Many swamp trees will not.
# 14 Mangroves can be planeted directly into an aqarium with a deep sand bed as long as the leaves are out of the water.

Yeah, I would also like to see the photos. Can't wait to see a full blown mangrove swamp in miniature.

I don't grow mangroves at this time, I grow swamp trees and bushes native to my area. As soon as I get my scanner fixed i am planning on illustrating the whole process from trudging throught the swamp doging cottonmouths and alligators to training the trees to have shallow roots. I have grown mangroves and I might include one just to show the difference.

Ah, interesting! I assume those fluffy tufts on tops are the eyes but I'm having trouble putting the rest of it together. I'll have to google "mantis shrimp"!
